- And speaking of drums, any drum savvy people help me out here.... What is the big deal about Robert Sweet's drumming? DBeality, Seventh Power make a big deal of FEATURING ROBERT SWEET! I don't get it.
It's all about the NAME. Robert's very presence on the releases will move more units by virtue of his status as a Christian Metal Icon. Nothing more to it than that, IMO. Not saying that that was the ONLY reason Robert guested on the albums, but when it was all said and done, the marketing machine took FULL advantage of it. - ghosts of athanasius wrote:
- They seem VERY straightforward. Not bad but hardly outstanding. In fact his thing seems to be very splashy cymbals. And it actually annoys me. But I'm no drummer so help me out here. I would rather hear Glenn Mancruso or Tony Velasquez (Sacred Warrior) on these releases.
Personally, I had high hopes for both the DBEALITY and SEVENTH POWER releases, but both have left me cold. I think that Robert's style on Benson's doom-tending sound doesn't fit AT ALL. Tradmetal drummers have no feel for doom, IMO. And while Robert may have been a better firt for 7P, the writing on that album sounds very bland to me - no dynamics whatsoever, very monotone and very repetetive. Bill Menchen has a great ear for riffs and melodies, but his writing could use a bit of diversity in the arrangements when it's executed, IMO. And know you know the Trog's side of things. | |

| Well I liked DBeality. I do hear you on the drums. Very ho hum but I liked the rest of the material. As for Seventh Power I am not hating this near as much as I thought I would. You are right, he needs to developing songwriting and would benefit from someone who has a gift for arrangement. Even some of the cheese in the lyrics don't make me groan quite as inwardly as I thought which is quite surprising. I think there is promise in the Seventh Power but it would benefit from some tweaks and polish (but not in the production sense) | |

| I should probably give DBEALITY some more listens with fresh ears and see if it grows on me at all. | |

| Hey I found a mort song I liked! IT is a bass solo called Flight of Victory. See I like his bass playing and some of the guitars but oh brother those vocals! I loved Lightforce's Mystical Thieves though. that was far more fun! | |

| FINALLY got my Solitude Aeturnus"Alone" and Candlemass "King Of The Grey Islands" cds.Musically the SA is great,so much like vintage Solitude it makes me want to cry, just really miss the epic tales behind those majestic riffs. The Candlemass on the other hand is just what the doctor ordered,Robert's voice doing epic stories" Clearsight" for example, about a doomed ship,is classic fraekin DOOM! "Of Stars and Smoke" kind of reminds me of "Black Stone Wielder"from the Epicus album and "Destroyer" lyriically is diff.,reminds me of words you might have heard in sessions for the SA cd "Through The Darkest Hour"."There in the spotlight you grin, and the slaughter of delight begins, oceans of limelight you drink, and society falls in a blink" | |
