Kyuss/Queens Of The Stone Age - Split EP (Man's Ruin) - One of the coolest and funkiest covers of Into The Void ever...love the way they change the fast section to a little funky percussion fueled groove and then Josh lays down one of his characteristically hip yet slightly insane solos.

Santana - Abraxas. One of the few rock albums that captures the Miles Davis Bitches Brew ambiance.

Nothing too doomy so far this weekend, but some good stuff nonetheless...

I live in Austin now, they're a local band. I'm going to be seeing them for the first time on October 4th as part of a triple bill along with Graveyard & Clutch.

Looking forward to that gig!

I saw them live in Seattle with Priestbird and Year Long Disaster.
It was one of the best shows I have ever seen. 4 guys, not a massive amount of equipment and yet the sheer intensity and... well they were just so friggin' haevy and glorious

Yep, I've seen THE SWORD live myself, and "friggin' heavy and glorious" about sums it up... they're totally awesome live, and both their albums rule too!

Can't go wrong with Kind Of Blue, one of the best albums ever recorded.

Indeed. No matter how many times I hear it, I'm always amazed by it. Not only the musicianship, but the mood they were able to create. There's an air of melancholy, yet it's ultimately more uplifting than depressing. Great album.
