Kalas - It took a few listens for this one to fully sink in but I definitely dig it. Kind of hard to describe, it's definitely heavy...but also a little contemplative. It mostly ranges from slow to mid-tempo, lots of nice shifts in texture (clean guitars, etc). Matt Pike only plays guitar on one track, he sticks to vocals mostly...I was impressed with his range as his style on this is quite different than the High On Fire albums. If you like moody, crushingly heavy stuff you should like it.

XV - I'm kind of a King's X fanboy so my opinion is probably a little biased. Anyway, it's similar in feel to Ogre Tones but it's got catchier songs. It's a good encapsulation of their entire career in one album, they've gone back to sharing vocal duties, Ty sings lead on 3 tracks, Jerry sings on one (he actually sounds kind of like Tom Petty). Not a really "heavy" album, but an incredibly groovy one. Many people are calling this a "return to form" album, but I don't think they ever really lost anything. It is their most popular album in many years, the first record they've released to crack the Billboard Top 200 since 1996. You can sample 3 full tracks at http://www.kingsxrocks.com/

You know, I wondered about that... seemed like it might be tongue in cheek, and being more familiar with their early/mid 90's work I was surprised to think they would have started out with such low-brow lyricism. Maybe poking a bit of fun at the lyrical cliches of the time?

Nothing wrong with liking Norah, she's a great singer and continues to improve.

Cool... thanks, man. I've been wanting to check out some of her more recent work... that album is awesome for when I'm in a chill mood, and it's something my wife and I can dig together, which is always nice.
