| HELL YEAH IT DOES!!!!!! I've been on a wicked LYNYRD SKYNYRD kick for the last two weeks! They are my favorite band in this genre, but I like all of that stuff! I must have the redneck gene somewhere in my DNA! So, who's with me? Post your faves and thoughts and let's get DIXIE FRIED! | |

| If it weren't for bands like Skynyrd & Blackfoot, bands like Orange Goblin & Dixie Witch would not be what they are... | |

| I love Southern Rock. I wish there was more of it actually.. I just got turned onto The Rossington Collins Band's "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere".. :affraid: THAT RECORD SLAYS! I had no idea that was the first record from most of the survivors of the big plane crash.. I scored it on vinyl for $2 -- SWEET! I'm sure some of you are familiar with Martin Popoff, the predominantly, metal writer. Well, he put out a book of reviews covering Southern Rock. It's pretty good for finding out about those obscure Southern Rock bands.. One of the newer bands carrying the torch is the band Drive By Truckers. They're pretty killer. Check out their cd "Southern Rock Opera" .. The Outlaws are playing around soon.. maybe I should go.. SHALOM! Judah | |

| LOVE Skynyrd!
Favorite tunes:
Gimme Back My Bullets On The Hunt Simple Man
And of course, Skynyrd had some beautiful ballads, like
Freebird All I Can Do Is Write About It Tuesday's Gone

| I agree. If the entire southern rock movement suddenly evaporated and all we were left with was Skynyrd and the Allmans, I'd still be happy as a bee! (though a few bands short ...) | |

| The Outlaws are pretty cool. I only have their first with that song on it. It's pretty good. I was gonna go see them last week and didn't get to go.. You should check out ROSSINGTON-COLLINS BAND. Their first album, Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere is pretty killer. Actually, I was pretty blown away by it. But the singer is a gal named Dale Krantz. and she has such an awesome voice. It's really great to hear a lady frontin' a good southern rock band.. And the CHARLIE DANIELS BAND are one of my faves. Especially the earlier albums. I have FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN, MIDNIGHT WIND and MILLION MILE RELFLECTIONS on vinyl. I still need to track down HONEY IN THE ROCK, NIGHTRIDER, SADDLE TRAMP.I was sorely dissapointed by MILLION MILE REFLECTIONS. The production is pretty horrible and slick sounding. but, I like The Devil Went Down To Georgia and Blind Man from that record.. Going to a record show tomorrow (ah, nothing but vinyl!!) so, maybe I'll track down those records I'm lookin' for.. | |

| Growing up in rural Missouri, and spending copious time in Southern Louisiana, I have a bit of an attitude about/prejudice against anything I consider to be "redneck music" (i.e. country, southern rock, some hair metal, etc.), but I have to admit being a total fan of the guitar tandem of Collins/Rossington/Gaines. Lynyrd Skynyrd were simply great songwriters...though I totally abhor the very concept of the band existing in any fashion post-crash.

| LS rules. Like me some Charlie Daniels once in awhile. Allmans of course. Black Crowes owe there lives to the genre. Novemberadio has a little south rock sound. | |

| So many good points here I hardly know where to begin, so I'll begin where the thread did, Skynyrd! The greatest Southern Rock Band ever! I rank Allman Brothers even higher but prefer their Blues side more! Sooo my other favs of the Genre: ZZ Top Blackfoot Black Oak Arkansas Molly Hatchett Outlaws early CDB Rossington Collins Band and to a lesser extent many more And even during the Hair Metal craze of the 80's we had: ZZ Top (again) Stevie Ray Vaughan Georgia Satelights Black Crowes And as others had pointed out Doom's bastard cousin Stoner owes alot to Southern Rock! Just listen to: Dixie Witch Artimus Piledriver Alabama Thunderpussy HalfWay to Gone And before all of them COC I'll end with 2 Southern(Ohio) Biker Blues Bands that any fan of this Genre should check out! From the 70's: The Godz Current: American Dog | |
