| Allright, we're all enthusiasts here, right? I was just wondering what process, steps, methods, you use when looking for new music. Personally, I'm a frequent flyer over at Metal-Archives.com, as well as Wikipedia.org and Amazon.com. All those sites have helped me discover oooodles of artists over the years. I guess other than that it would just be discussions with friends, as well as 'cold' buying over at the music shops when I get the urge. Also, I LOVE reading through rock and roll encyclopeidas such as Rolling Stone's Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll and another encyc. about the same size whose name escapes me at the moment. Most of the artists I look for are either (a) influences for artists that I allready know/love or (b) influenced BY artists that I alreaady know/love. I like sticking with this model because it allows me to bite off one small sector of the music world at a time. I hope that one day all of the above methods will lead me to truly get into and understand all the various forms of rock, jazz, blues, metal, industrial, ambient, etc. One sub-sub-sub genre at a time is a daunting task, but it's somethign that I love. Anyway, I was just curious about how you guys go about it. peace, | |

| Myspace, Napster, word of mouth, and when an artist mentions their influences. Also the now playing threads get me looking and listening as well. It used to be music channels too but I now longer get the music channels that still play music only MTV and VH1 (which when it does play music, plays gay music) | |

On demand music channels like Havoc and Music Choice were big for me to discover guys too but now I live in podunk ville with no On Demand Cool man, it's very similiar for me as well. I love reading and talking about music! VH1 can be an entertaining channel however. They have some of the most retarded things to say about many stylezs of music, but it can be very fun to watch sometimes. I especially like watching their hip-hop shows. I don't think I've ever seen television programming that is more racist than VH1 hip-hop specials.

| I'm actually kinda serious, though perhaps not as blatantly as I expressed above. The new music I check out I am usually "drawn to" in some way, and I am almost never turned on to stuff by recommendation. I can't really explain it, but it's almost never wrong - for my tastes anyway. | |

| Word of mouth does help too, when someone tries to turn me on to a band id say about 25% of the time I actually like them enough to get a CD by them, but it also depends on whose word of mouth it is too | |

I personally really don't like when people assume you're going to like all their music just because you're both 'metalheads' ( ... whatever that means ... )

| OOOOOOOOH! One method of new muzak discovery that I forgot to mention was the legendary METAL-ARCHIVES!! The authoritative source for all things accurate and of course M~*~ E~*~ T~*~ A~*~ L!!!! (READ THAT, DYSLEXIA-MAN!)I also love browzing through Wikipedia. Despite its reputation for faulty information, you can find ANYTHING on that site! I love to use Metal Archives for metal purposes and le Wikie for all music non-metal that I listen to. | |

| Never the myspace: it's freezing cold down there! I roam in some very interesting sites from metal to jazz, there is plenty of them (I always cross the informations); I stick to the ones that offer a good quality of writing; And indeed some encyclopaedias about rock and jazz, mostly. I like to understand how the whole thing stood up, you know, that good old image of the tree, its roots, its branches, and so on... | |
