... anyone?

One of my favourite bands ever. I came across them by chance, when I was a child, entertaining myself with some vinyl archeology in dad's collection. So I saw this title «Death Walks Behind Me» and three guys looking so very cool... and that was it, I was hooked. The band (or should one say Vincent Crane's project) had several line-up changes, so each album is unique. I dig everything until the 4th album.
In fact, the 1st one ('Atomic Roooster') is one of the doomiest things I've ever listened to, it's just so perfect for my less cheerful moods.
This band is so special to me in so many ways I had to share.

Another Atomic Rooster fan, YEAH!!! Wait till Randy catches wind of this thread, he loves em!

Atomic Rooster is one of my favorite 70s bands now. I've only got Death
Walks Behind you and In Hearing Of..., but I love them both. Especially
Death.

Great band, and ahead of their time in terms of the doom sound.

OH YEAH!!!Yay! Another ROOSTER fan! Doom-Metal

Atomic Rooster... 9580526

I love these guys, and Vincent Crane is probably one of my favorite keys/piano players ever. So much melody, power and emotion in his playing! I only have the first 3 albums at this point, but I love them dearly.

Atomic Rooster... 247 Atomic Rooster... 248 Atomic Rooster... S5600

I also love the work he did with THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN on the debut album. He and Arthur had a great chemistry together.

Atomic Rooster... S14985

It's so sad that Vincent chose to take his own life prematurely in 1989.Crying

I haven't listened to his work with Arthur Brown, I must. «Made in England», the 4th is with Chris Farlow on vocals, so you can expect something a bit different. But I like it, nonetheless Smile
I recently bought that pretty Akarma box with the first 3 in cd GEEN!
It's a nice edition, with the essential of the band.

I didn't know he comminted suicide. That is truly sad!

I DID, however, know he was with the Crazy World. That's been on my list of albums t ckeck into for a long time!

EDIT:

About the other albums ... it kind of stung, getting those two I've
got, because I actually found almost the band's complete recordings
used at Zia one day, including Made in England and a live album. But I
only had money for those two I mentioned above. I figured those would
be my best bets in terms of enjoyability, and I think I was right, but
I don't think I've ever seen those other two albums anywhere else ever
since then, and that was probably over a year ago that I picked up
Death and In Hearing.

Shame! (But great albums!)

Yeah, it really bums me out. The guy was such a tremendous talent. Frown If I remember correctly, the drummer who played on the DWBY album also committed suicide. Reports of successful suicides always make me feel ultra-icky-bleck. Blah...

Oh yes, you simply MUST check that one out. It's a PRECIOUS gem of an album! And screw getting a cdr, get the real thing - you'll be glad you did. GEEN!

Those two are my personal faves bro, so I think you done just fine! Big Smile The debut is third on the list currently, but it's a great one too. I can't speak for the others...yet. Evile

There's the self-titled one, from 1980 (I guess)... it has little to do with the earlier ones, it's more hard-rock in an 80s sense. I don't like that one a bit. :s

Hey another fan here! Doom-Metal

The John Cann era is the best! I only have the first 3 because are the ones i really love...also all Portuguese singles made here in the 70's with cool unique picture sleeves.
If i only had the time to put the sleeves here...
Atomic Rooster was one of the first conversations i had with Acid so we had to fall in love Yay!

Curiously enough this band had something to do with it. It served as the excuse for our 2nd date, as I had some flyers from the Atomic Rooster concert my uncle organized here in my hometown back in 72 (which in itself always seemed quite surreal). And that was the beginning of something very special. Razz

Aww, that's cool! Yay!

I have an Atomic Rooster story too, but it's not nearly as romantic as yours. A happy 'no'

Mine just has to do with the cover art for my debut CD. You can read the story here, just scroll down to the second question: http://trogdawn.bravehost.com/FAQ.html Troggish

I actually noticed that when I saw your myspace. Blake is always cool Big Smile
But I didn't know AR had that cover art for a long time because the LP edition I have has another cover (much less interesting, no doubt about that):

I too am a big fan of Atomic Rooster! I still have some slightly scratchy copies of several of their classics on vinyl! However, on CD I only have a 2CD comp called Devil's Answer on Castle! Very good line up of tunes!!!

The albums you guys have, are they vinyl or CD? It is sooo hard to find Rooster on CD!

I do like that comeback album, for what it is. But I like all the classics too; it's reallly a different band.

p.s.-Has anyone ever heard Paradise Lost cover "Death Walks Behind You"? Killer IMO.
