| Starting that Tull thread a few minutes ago gave me this idea: list some of those albums that, from your FIRST or SECOND listens, you knew right away were going to become one of your all-time favorites. I don't just mean albums that caught your ear when you heard them, but those that just gave you that gut feeling inside: "How in the WORLD did I not listen to this album before now!!!" some of mine: Deep Purple - Machine Head The first Purple album I got, and even after getting most of the other albums over time, I'm still absolutely in love with the one that got me started on this classic band. The Allman Brothers Band - Beginnings I've got the old version, the crappy one with no liner notes and the original master. And I've listened to it on a VERY regular basis for years! One of those musical gems that truly illustrates my belief that solid musicianship is nothing but a means to an end. In particular, Duane's dazzling slide guitar got me hooked on the band's sound, but the passion and soul felt throughout is what made me love this album from the moment I heard it. and a number of others: Vinnie Moore - The Maze Jethro Tull - Aqualung (duh!) Joe Satriani - Surfing With the Alien Saint Vitus - Born Too Late/Thirsty & Miserable more will come to me as time passes. What are some of yours? | |

Again, thanks for the Blind Faith reccomend, Trog. This is another one I haven't been able to put down. Brilliant album. | |

| My latest 'instant' fave is the latest My Silent Wake, The Anatomy of Melencholy. Whereas the first took a few months to win me over (and now just slays me everytime I play it), this new one had me hooked right from the start. And it has become some sort of obsession with me, as I seem to play it to the exclusion of a lot of other discs I own. Off the top of my head, instant faves for me include: Van Halen - VH Iron Maiden - Killers Iron Maiden - NOTB Saxon - The Eagle Has Landed Riot - Fire Down Under Led Zeppelin - III Def Leppard - High & Dry Diamond Head - LTTN Hmmm, oddly these that I've pulled off the top of my head are all from my 13 to 16 range of years. | |

| Usually, the albums that have the most longevity in my heart were not "instantly" a hit with me, but rather grew on and took hold over several listens. But, there are a few that I hit it off with immediately that are still favorites: ALICE IN CHAINS - DirtBLACK SABBATH - SabotageDIAMOND HEAD - Borrowed TimeJUDAS PRIEST - Screaming for VengeanceAnd I just went blank. There may be more, but it's late and I can't think...
