| I am in the throes of a FULL ON Frank Zappa kick - the most obsessive one I've ever had since getting into his stuff 20 years ago. I'm actually working on obtaining his ENTIRE catalogue from 1966 up to the present day posthumous releases put out by the Zappa Family Trust. The man had MUSIC in his blood, sweat and tears! His output and the sheer intelligence and humor of his body of work is rivaled by few others. I'll post more later about specific stuff that's decorating my cookies currently, but are there any other fans of this ICONIC artist? | |

| Favorite Zappa track of all time (for no particular reason): "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?"
Have you ever seen his famous interview on CNN's Crossfire from the 80's, during the height of the PMRC controversy? I'll post it if you haven't...

| I saw it years ago and I read the text again recently in his autobiography, but I wouldn't mind seeing it again. Speaking of "Pee"... Joe's Garage is on my "must have" list and will be obtained VERY SOON. Some of my fave tracks: Wind Up Working in a Gas Station You Are What You Is Baby Snakes I'm So Cute Broken Hearts Are for Assholes Tinseltown Rebellion Billy the Mountain Magic Fingers... and the list goes on and on and on... | |

| Thanks that is classic
Gov't can't protect people. They can enforce consequence for violating the law but are we talking murder here? no.
We are talking about musicians and music. If a kid is swayed into incest because of a song the problem originates in the family that has so ill-equipped a person to be prone to have huge incest issues after hearing a song.
Let the individual and the supportive of community of the individual guide the child but don't let the gov't do your thinking for you...
Great interview | |

| My friend, every New Year has to listen to Joe's Garage BEFORE any other music. Sometimes it takes him weeks to find the time to sit down and listen to Joe's Garage all the way through, uniterupted. And no other music is played until that has been accomplished! He's a Zappa freak. I can dig some of Zappa's stuff, but some of it is too arty for the sake of being arty.. | |

of it is too arty for the sake of being arty.. I've personally never seen Zappa's stuff that way. To me, he is the antithesis of pretense, and I think you have to be a pretentious twat to be "arty for the sake of being arty", IMO. His weirdest stuff is so bizarre not because he's trying to be arty, but more so because it was so completely random and improvised and Frank just put a frame around it to give it context.

Wow! I've never seen that! Lofton was a TOTAL condescending asshole! He stooped to name calling and insults right off the bat! He had many of the same characteristics of SO MANY of the juvenille posters on so many message boards. The guy wouldn't even let frank finish answering his stupid questions! Thanks for the post, Stig.

| For me, my favourite has to be Nanook Rubs it... in fact Apostrophe is my favourite album. My second favourite song has to be "I'm the Slime" so much truth to the words. | |

| Hey, while we're on the subject of this guy, everyone do me a favor:
I've always appreciated Zappa as an artist and as a visionary voice, just never gotten into him. I've tried a few times and never quite been able to do it. I think if I could get recommendations from you guys that might help. As you might guess, that's where you all come in.
What are some of your favorite releases? Knowing my tastes, which releases do you think I might like best. I usually run by the used CD stores pretty frequently, so if you could give me some suggestions as to where to start, I'd keep my eyes open next time I run past those places. Like I said, I've always wanted to like Zappa, just never had the motivation to do so. So ... shoot!

| Get Sheik Yerbouti. That one is a classic from start to finish. For a more fuzz drenched 70's sound though, I would suggest Over-Nite Sensation and Apostrophe ('). Those three will give you a GREAT start!

| The great thing about Sheik is the word play of the title and the fact that he proudly displays his unibrow on the cover hahaha Perhaps a playlist ala Tour De Zappa needs to be compiled by our own Trog! I wonder if there is alot of Zappa on seeqpod | |

Yeah man, I'll make a list here of songs that I feel are "essential" out of the material I am familiar with thus far. Although there is still a TON of material I have yet to hear! I currently have about 15 of his albums, and that's not even halfway there! Here's my suggested beginning playlist for the Zappa-curious as it stands right now (bearing in mind that sometimes he has a couple different versions of some songs on different albums, and some of these songs do contain explicit satirical content dealing with sex/profanity/government/religion for anyone concerned with such things): Son of Suzy Creamcheese Call Any Vegetable Big Leg Emma Who Needs the Peace Corps? Concentration Moon What's the Ugliest Part of YOur Body? Mother People Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance Electric Aunt Jemima Magic Fingers My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama Billy the Mountain Eddie Are You Kidding? Peaches En Regalia Camarillo Brillo I'm the Slime Dirty Love Fifty-Fifty Zomby Woof Dinah-Moe Humm Montana Don't Eat the Yellow Snow/Nanook Rubs It/Saint Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast/Father O'Blivion Cosmic Debris Excentrifugal Forz Apostrophe Uncle Remus Stink-Foot You Are What You Is Wind Up Working in a Gas Station The Torture Never Stops Panty Rap Punky's Whips Jazz Discharge Party Hats Titties 'n' Beer I Have Been in You Flakes Broken Hearts Are for A**holes I'm So Cute Jones Crusher Baby Snakes Tryin' to Grow a Chin City of Tiny Lites Dancin' Fool Jewish Princess Wild Love Yo' Mama Joe's Garage Catholic Girls Crew Slut/Fembot in a Wet T-Shirt/On the Bus Why Does it Hurt When I Pee? Stick it Out Sy Borg The Closer You Are In France Ya Hozna Sharleena Truck Driver Divorce Stevie's Spanking Baby, Take Your Teeth Out Be in My Video Frogs With Dirty Little Lips Whippin' Post G-Spot Tornado Elvis Has Just Left the Building Planet of the Baritone Women Stairway to Heaven That oughta get you started, earthlings.
