Vengeance Rising - Released Upon The Earth

Since Im listening to this at the moment, what do you think of this album? Ive always felt it had a dark vibe to it. It kinda tells the listener where Roger was spiritually at this time.

Overall a pretty decent effort. Much better than Destruction Comes in my opinion. Of course it still cant touch the first two albums.

I've never heard this album because I've never been a fan of VR. It was always those vocals that kept me away. However, I have burns of the first two coming to me, so I'm gonna give them another chance.I gotta educate myself about some of the classic Christian metal I've yet to hear. So, when I get around to Released Upon the Earth, I'll let you know then.

The first two are good pieces of thrash!

My fav is Destruction Comes but would like to give Released another chance if only because Jimmy Brown did some guitars on that album

What a coincidence!! I was watching the UFTA DVD just the other day and saw Ult and Trog doing Burn . . . AWESOME!!!!

I haven't even seen that yet!

A good thrash CD, but doesn't have the same appeal as Once Dead or Human Sacrifice.

Okay, rewind a few years back to when Tourniquet and Deliverance where what I knew of as fast bands...everyone was talking about Roger and VR on the message boards. It intrigued me, someone was selling RELEASED for $2 on Half.com and I ordered it.

I loved it the moment 'Help Me' started blaring out my car speakers. Talk about disturbing.

Okay granted, it doesn't hold water technically compared to the first two discs...but since it was my first VR album (not to mention my first harder thrash album with death tendencies), it still kinda holds a place with me. I agree it is a very dark album, and despite the Christian view of the lyrics, seems very bitter and dark.

'Help Me' is possibly Roger's early cry for help. That song still tears at me...I can understand the feeling "Help me, someone please help me, can anybody hear me? Please help me."

You know the first 2 are best. This isn't bad but I remember from the day it was released (and trust me I waiting for it at the store) I was concerned. Roger seemed so bitter and to have lost focus.

There are some great moments on the disc but it doesn't have the same spark. Of course it doesn't have Larry on it either! I find the Roger Rising material blends together. His songs are mostly a very reptitive uber fast riff with what feels like the same solo. That is just IMO. I found this even of Herod's Violent Death. His stuff is ok but it gets old to me after awhile and vocally I thought he needed to branch out some. Like Damnation of Judas, mixing it up there, and the vocals on TION & Bishop that was cool More of that.

I listened to the first two disks a bit... But I'm with Troggy on the vocals. I'm just not into that style of vocal.

I always liked listening to the speed metal/thrash bands with vocalists who sing as opposed to growl.

Hmm for some reason, I feel like listening to Powermad now!

I love Released Upon The Earth and think it's HIGHLY underrated. I like the rhythms, the "deathy" vocals, the tune of the instraments...the lyrics might be darker, but they are very edifying and praise type lyrics. I LOVE Bishop of Souls...it's my favorite Praise song of all time right up there with the Third Day song of that actual name!!!

Once Dead and Human Sacrifice RULE beyond all imagining

I've heard Human Sacrifice and it was nothing like Destruction Comes... much much better than DC

Yeah, Destruction Comes was a completely different line-up with the exception of RogerM.

I think this is his most underrated album, and if it had been released after Once Dead, instead of Destruction Comes, the VR story might be considerably different today.

As far as Roger's stuff blending together, a lot of that has to do with his songwriting approach. Roger is obsessed with the "Go in with a handful of ideas and jam, then record it the next day" approach. The idea is to create a familiar vibe throughout the record. It has it's ups and downs. I've been trying to talk him out of doing it that way on the new record, but the one time he DIDN'T do it that way (the Realms of Blasphemy sessions), it was a total mess.

The truth is that if Roger doesn't just go in and play, he overthinks it, and then never finishes it.

As I sit here listening to Released...I am totally blown out of my chair by Out of Bounds!! Holy shi'ite! Brilliant main riff and then a huge surge of Metal Churchiness! The soloing is incredibly tastey to boot! Brilliant!

Ohhhhhhhh and now Bishop of Souls........arrrrgh my ass being kicked by Mr. Martinez!

Hey Stig, I finally got over there yesterday. I thought I had already registered once, but I had to do it again. Weird. Anyway, I made a couple of posts, but I'm not sure how much time I'll be able to spend over there right now - but I'll visit when I can. With the hooplah the last few days over at CMR coming to a final head today and the stress of my current personal situation, I'm going to back way off of most of the places I visit and just concentrate here. Not to mention getting back into writing/recording music again. I think message boards are the worst thing that has ever happened to me as far as my music activities are concerned. I've been so distracted that I never seem to get down to business musically anymore.

But I am changing that...

Haha...well, I was disappointed you didn't try to bring the Dogism over to Warpath. That might have been a fun tussle.

Things have been a little slow since we've been in the "transitional" state, what with everyone just finally making it over there from EZBoard.

We thought we were making it easy for people by having a nice, long switch-over period; but really, we only made it harder for ourselves, because the wait/anticipation got people into the habit of not posting. But I think things are going to improve in a huge way soon...

Troggy...I know what you mean about being stagnant musically. I wish you the best on new material! I too have been in a slump but thanks to Mr. Martinez and the ass kicking RUTE has given me....and also a healthy dose of Mortification's Post Momentary Affliction....I am itching to write! I have only one way to go and that is heavy....and possibly down because Mr. Dio said it is the only way...we shall see.

OK--*that* is the problem...you are still trying to access the old EZBoard. The old site on EZBoard has been shut down for a month now. We've gotten just about everyone moved over to the new place, though we still have a few stragglers...
