This one's a little different, since it's actually a cover, but musically and lyrically, Sabbath made it their own. I'll include the original lyrics below the Sabs' version so you can compare and contrast them:

Warning (Black Sabbath, 1970)

Now the first day that I met you
I was looking in the sky
When the sun turned all a blur
And the thunderclouds rolled by
The sea began to shiver
And the wind began to moan
It must've been a sign for me
To leave you well alone
I was born without you, baby
But my feelings were a little bit too strong

You never said you loved me
And I don't believe you can
Cause I saw you in a dream
And you were with another man
You looked so cool and casual
And I tried to look the same
But now I've got to love you
Tell me who am I to blame?
I was born without you, baby
But my feelings were a little bit too strong

Just a little bit too strong...

Now the whole wide world is movin'
Cause there's iron in my heart
I just can't keep from cryin'
Cause you say we've got to part
Sorrow grips my voice as I stand here all alone
And watch you slowly take away
A love I've never known
I was born without you, baby
But my feelings were a little bit too strong

Just a little bit too strong...

Here are the original lyrics, since Sabbath altered them a little:

Warning (The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation)

Now the first day that I met you
I was looking in the sky
When the sun turned all to blood
And the thunderclouds rolled by
The sea began to shiver
And the wind began to moan
It must've been a sign for me
To leave you well alone
I was warned about you, baby
But my feelings were a little bit too strong

You never said you loved me
And I don't believe you can
Cause I saw you in a dream
And you were with another man
You looked so cool and casual
And I tried to do the same
But now I've got to love you
Tell me who am I to blame?
I was warned about you, baby
But my feelings were a little bit too strong

The whole wide world is movin'
But there's iron in my heart
I just can't keep from cryin'
Now you say we've got to part
Sorrow grips my voice as I stand here all alone
And watch you slowly take away
A love I've never known
I was warned about you, baby
But my feelings were a little bit too strong

Just a little bit too strong...

Thanks Trog, and may I say I look forward to reading the posts. I enjoy reading everyones analysis. Trog, dude you should be writing for Rolling stone . Anyway, I can laugh now at what I thought this song was about, so I won't blame any of you if you laugh. I was 12 or so when I first heard it, and I thought it was about Ozzie's love affair with the devil. The line that says " you were with another man " I just took that to mean the devil with a demon.

I think that the song is about his first wife?
TrogDawn wrote:
Oz didn't write it, bro. It's a cover song. Originally by THE AYNSLEY DUNBAR RETALIATION.

I KNOW that!! He still could have recorded the song as a lament to his first wife!!

Trog, I was about to tell you some great news and then I it was cancelled. I was going to tell you that Sheavy was playing in my fair city November 16th but they for some reason cancelled. What a drag!!!

Aw, bummer about Sheavy, man! BLACK SABBATH Lyric Analysis #7: "Warning" Frown

I think Ozzy was either still with or hadn't met his first wife in 1970 though, dood... BLACK SABBATH Lyric Analysis #7: "Warning" Ohwell

I look at these lyrics as a good expression of the pain and regret that comes from being involved (romantically, sexually, etc.) with someone who only causes you pain and frustration, but you just can't seem to break yourself away from that person. Sometimes we don't use the brains God gave us, especially where romantic/sexual relationships are concerned. This poor dude was even warned about her ahead of time (and apparently born without her in Sabs' version BLACK SABBATH Lyric Analysis #7: "Warning" Tongue ), and yet he still couldn't escape because he acted on his feelings instead of wisdom.

I think because no one was participating anymore, bro. I dunno I'll try and get it going again over at the new Cave.
