| I've been interested in this guy for a while, he is cited as one of the most influential 'guitar' innovators in a book I have.
I'm not too into jazz, though ... maybe it's time for something new!

| He's been dead for about 15 years (he really "lived hard"). His style was apparently dubbed "punk jazz". Gotta love it!

| You know he was a total genius
That said, like most shred heads alot of his material, while wowing me, doesn't resonate with me. I hear it, appreciate it but it doesn't run in my head all day long the way Geeazer, Jack Bruce, Jack Cassidy, Ron Holnzer, and others do...

| Jaco is one of the most influencial bassists of his genre. Was an absolute monster. GREAT GREAT Bassist. HOWEVER - he was also bi-polar - and had issues surrounding this which ultimately led to his death. He self-medicated with alcohol - and on the night of his death wandered into a club, drunk, and got into a fight with a bouncer. That bouncer beat him to death. It was a very sad loss. | |

It was a very sad loss. Succinctly and well put, Wes.

| I love me some fusion..
Jaco was awesome! Like his Weather Report stuff the best myself.
You may like some of Sean Malone's projects, he was hugely influenced by Jaco. His Gordian Knot albums have tons of alumni from King Crimson, Yes, etc guesting on them and are very moody, beautiful, colorful slices of proggish fusionish world musicish.... heavy rock.... stuff.

| Oh yes - Sean Malone is phenomenal as well. You know who his old band is - right? Cynic - the death metal band! Great stuff - I love the Gordian Knot discs....very good. He also recently did a show in Chicago with the band called Cygnus - which consisted of him, mike portnoy, jason mcmaster & paul gilbert - where they did all rush cover tunes, including 2112, cygnus book 1 and cygnus book2. He's also played with OSI (portnoy) and did some work on Spiral Architect's disc (if you haven't heard it - you need to!!! Tech metal - melodic - in fine form). Oh yeah - you start talking bass and I'm all over it!!! | |

I have the Spiral Architect and OSI discs too.... He sure has good judgement on what to guest on...cause every album is amazing. :doombanger:
The only thing I don't have yet is that 'Cortlandt' album..

| I don't really care much for them forren foods. I had me one of them there tacos once and my two twin brothers made me sleep outside until I passed that wretched foulness that was brewin' in my innards. I usually like the smell of my own brand, you know? But that night I thought I was gonna choke on my own stink and I was just aprayin' that I would make it until my next trip to the outhouse. | |
