A band I have been listening to since the Mountain King days. One of those great power metal bands that did it their way and put metal on the map in America. Does anyone like them? Do you like the Zak years, the offshoot bands I AM... etc.

Key points.

1. My favorite Savatage album is Power of the Night

2. I don't care for Zak's vocals on later releases, but the music makes up for it.

3. I love Jon Oliva's Pain. The best stuff since Streets, if ya ask me.

4. They should have never employed that guy who sang on the Poets and Madmen tour.

5. One day I'll be as big as Jon. Trust me.

I loved Edge of Thorns with Zak and after that he was ok. JOP is killer and I love his incorporating Criss's riffs.
Didn't know someone else sang on the Poet's tour, why didn't Jon sing?

As for point 5, are you talking fame? Afraid

Some guy name Damond something sang. He sucked. I don't know why Jon didn't sing.

I think I heard that he started having problems with his voice at that point. Not sure if that's the case or not, but aside from that, I prefer him as the voice of Savatage.

My favorite stuff is the first five albums with the original lineup (except the bassist) and Jon on lead vocals. Their sound during that period is a perfect mix of traditional metal and doom and I love it - particularly on The Dungeons Are Calling. I also like their big so-called "sellout" album Fight for the Rock, and Hall of the Mountain King is a metal masterpiece, IMO. Ed-banger!

But after that when they started changing their style to a more progressive direction, I lost interest.
