I finally got around to submitting some cd's to CDBaby. You can listen to most of the album via low quality mp3's over there: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/troglodytedawn

So how does that work? Don't you make more money if people just buy straight from you? Of course not everyone knows about the Cave just yet...

I probably make about the same either way, because it's a little more expensive at CDBaby. It mainly goes back into materials and merch, so I don't really see much of it anyway.

Well I had no delusions of riches haha just wondered if you had to take a hit. I think, not sure, that when I ordered demos through Spring Arbor distro that the bands made less. Then again no Internet either. I think some of the distros help because with an unknown artist there may be some hesistation to send $$$. That and people can order a cd along with several other artists. I wonder if there is more money to be made by servicing albums to these dl places like Itunes and Napster?

The only hit I take with them is that I have to send them a free copy along with the initial group of cd's to get started selling. Yeah, I just figure CDBaby is another place to get exposure. Also, I don't have the cd offered as electronic files. Because of the songs that run together, it doesn't sound right as a download.

CDBABY rocks because places like Kunaki (who make on demand) won't do international shipping. So I set up CDBABY accounts for Ishur Ninku and my Solo CD (Wallpaper Sky) for my international friends. Also, thanks to CDBABY, I've been able to sell downloads on iTunes etc. What a thrill it was to see my stuff on iTunes for the first time. The drawback is that CDBABY does take like $4 per sale... That is why the Sombrance Eli CD is not there - I only want to sell it for $5 and by the time I pay to have it manufactured, then drop shipped to CDBABY and then sold... I lose money unless I sell it for way more than it's worth! Though some would argue that $5 is way more than it's worth!! CDBABY loves me and I love CDBABY!

They're selling ok. No, I haven't really pushed them much with ads, but I am still making each one by hand per order. If sales pick up, I might not be able to keep up and will have to have a batch printed up. I haven't hit that problem yet, though.
