| I saw some of your old performance pcitures and I was wondering... Was that a sock in your pants or were you just enjoying yourself? JUST KIDDING!!! I was wondering with the rock version of TD is the songwriting riff based? Do you have a concept for a song and write to meet it? Just curious about the process.... |

Neither. It's an old trick I picked up from me ol' mate Derek Smalls. It's a zucchini wrapped in tinfoil.

It's both really. I mainly start with riffs, but I have also started with concepts from time to time and then wrote/built the music around it. For instance, "Fallen World" was mainly riff based in the beginning (that song was written during the DTS days and has actually been through two other conceptual lives prior to becoming the current song you know. "Name Your Poison" was the original title and then it evolved into "Dead Man's Switch" towards the end - the latter can still be heard on the video version of Alive and Kicking at Geno's), but "Lust" and "Dood" are two examples of songs that began with concepts first. |

| good call, ghosts. I've kind of wondered the same thing ... Randy, I've noticed that within your S/T album, there's a definite ebb/flow of calmness with heaviness. I assume that you were going for that effect? I've wondered how you arrived at the 'composition' of that album as well. The song order seems very deliberate to me ... which is really cool IMO. _________________ ---- Theyyyyy sayyyy myyy songggsss are much too slowww....

Yes, the track order and the arrangement were all very deliberate. The composition was not quite as deliberate, but as it all began to take shape, everything started fitting together perfectly. That happens a lot with my projects. Cool little "coincidences" that I never could have planned happen regularly. |

| If you are still among us.... I have to ask the story behind Stone Groove You see my first run in with the term was on The Crucified's S/T album circa 1989. They had a breakdown in one of their songs and in the lyric sheet they labeled it EVOORGENOTS Being somewhat literate I caught that is was Stonegroove backwards.... What's your connection? |

| Have you ever seen the movie Trading Places with Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy? Well, in one scene, after being assimilated into the company by the CEO's, Eddie Murphy is having a party in his new home and there are two big black guys and one of them says to Eddie that his party is a "Stone Groove". That phrase always stuck in my head (even though I forgot where it was from for awhile) and I used it as the title of a six cassette collection I made back in 1989-1991 which featured all of my favorite tracks from the late 60's and the 70's. Using it for the name of my label seemed appropo. |

| Hi Randy, Long time listener, first time caller. How many takes was Kyna done in? Was it a situation that you layed down the basic "tune" for lack of a better word and just layered on top of it? -Bamboozled in Bartow |

I did four tracks in one take each, completely improvised and layered over each other with very little attention to melody or key. The tricky part came in when I had to mix it and decide what to keep and what to toss between the for tracks and how they flowed together. I could probably mix it again and come out with a completely different piece if I wanted to, but I don't, so I won't. |

| At the moment, no. But that's only because my production facility is currently down (my desktop computer was fried in the lightning strike last summer). As soon as I make my way over to Fry's Electronics to purchase a new system, the files are ready and waiting to be manufactured again. Stay tuned and I'll make sure to let you know when that happens... Or, I may just go for broke and actually print up some silverbacked copies this time of each album! |
