PostSubject: Legalist's Credo   Wed May 23, 2007 4:46 pm

I've been developing this for the last few years while doing intensive research on Christian message boards. It's a work in progress and may be added to from time to time as more of these profound truths are revealed to me, but tell me what you think so far:

Legalist's Credo:
1. Win at any cost.
2. Never let love & concern for people overtake the ultimate goal of rightness.
3. "The beatings will continue until morale improves."
4. The Father, the Son and the Holy Scripture.
5. The surest way to judge someone's love for God is by the music they listen to.

6. 1 Corinthians 5:12 beats Matthew 7:1.
7. Luke 21:17 is a license to act like a jackass.
8. If all else fails...use guilt, fear, control and manipulation - that'll get 'em.

Furious I USED TO WONDER,SURROUNDED BY ALL THESE "CHRISTIANS" IN THE SO CALLED BIBLE BELT,IF THERE COULD BE SUCH A THING AS CHRISTIAN METAL.THEN LOGIC SET IN AND I REALIZED THE TRUTH AND MENTALLY SLAPPED MYSELF! I CALL IT MY " SWITCH " THEORY:TO SOME PEOPLE YOU COULD SIT IN FRONT OF THEM AND STRIKE AN ACOUSTIC CHORD AND THEY WOULD SIGH AND SAY THATS NICE.HIT THE SWITCH AND PLAY IT WITH DISTORTION AND ALL OF A SUDDEN ITS EVIL? ITS THE SAME FRAEKIN(a typo, but it sounds like an elvish curse so i'm leavin it in) CHORD! MUSIC IS NEUTRAL, ITS THE WORDS AND THOUGHTS BEHIND IT THAT MAKE IT SOMETIMES EVIL.

The "Kill them all and let GOD sort them out" is one my favortie quotes.

This is the true history of that quote:

In 1209, during the "Albigensian Crusade" against the Cathar heresy in Southern France, the forces of Orthodox Catholicism had been besieging the city of Beziers, defended by the Cathar heretics, for some time. Finally they breached the walls of the city and prepared to storm it. The commander of the crusade, Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester, pointed out that not everybody in the city was a heretic, some of them were good Catholics, so how should they treat the inhabitants when they captured the city? A monk who was actually present at the siege recorded the answer of the Papal Legate to the Crusaders, Arnaud-Amaury, the Abbot of Citeaux, as "Neca eos omnes. Deus suos agnoscet." ("Kill them all. God will know his own." ) So the Crusaders followed his advice and killed everybody they could find in Beziers.

Two points:

1. This is assinine and humanistic reasoning to a *T*. This makes me freaking sick.

2. That said, the Cathars or Albigensians were not Christians in the sense that we use the term. They were quite heretical and Gnostic and I rather doubt that many of them were truly *saved* as we understand the term.

Dan, GW wasn't slamming what you said with his post.

GODSWIZARD wrote:

I think that all he was saying that the original person who made that quote used faulty reasoning in order to justify killing people.

The saying itself IS funny, but to think that a religious leader used it and actually MEANT it at one point in history is frightening. Shocked

GW isn't one of those "pseudo religious/pseudo intellectual" types that you are tallking about - seriously. He's good people. Troggish

Come on guys, knock it off. This is supposed to be a forum for bizarre music, not bizarro behavior. I'll close this place if this kind of bullshit gets started, I swear. I left CMR to leave drama behind, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let it start over here too. Really Mad!
