ok ,so last Friday, I had a dilemma. I could go see Merle Haggard at the
county fair or drive an hour to see Charlie Daniels for FREE at another fair.
Needless to say, I was bummed that both of these shows fell on the same
day because I had never seen either one live before..
I chose Charlie Daniels because I realized that I like his music more. It's more
traditional southern overall. Merle Haggard's "Bakersfield Sound" is good, but
Charlie is a little more wild and crazy. Plus Charlie is a lot more upfront about his
faith these days which is encouraging..
So onto the show.
WOW !!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe how rockin' this
show was. Charlie's voice is still really strong. I mean, no wavering or weakness
in it at all, which was surprising considering he's gettin' up their in dog years.
He was still KILLIN' that fiddle and also playing crazy guitar SOLOS!! He also
played A LOT of older songs, which I was really thankful for. Like "Long Haired
Country Boy" "Trudie" "South's Gonna Do It" and of course "The Devil Went
Down To Georgia".
Before he played THAT song, he says, "..and remember, you can't beat the
devil without THE LORD" 8)
He played a tribute song to Johnny Cash, and two gospel songs, a couple of
more recent songs. So he mixed it up a good bit..
I am glad I got to see him, totally worth the drive and plus it was free..
