| Someone tell me about them. I've only heard one song ("Christian Woman") and, believe it or not, that one song's sound actually had a slight impact on Troglodyte Dawn in the very beginning. The lyrics of that song were kind of harsh towards their subject matter though, so I kind of avoided them since I was extremely touchy and sensitive at the time I first heard them (1995 or so). But I think I'm past that now and I'm thinking abuot checking into some of their stuff. Strig, I know you are a big fan, can you give me the lowdown on these guys? What's their trip? Do you consider them doomy or more of a goth-type sound? What are some of your favorite songs/albums? I have recently downloaded a couple of their Black Sabbath covers for a comp I'm making - did they do well with those? Inquiring 's want to know! | |

| I actually don't own anything by them, but have been meaning to get into them for YEARS. You know how that goes...
A friend of mine is a GIGANTIC type-o fan, so though I don't own their stuff, I've heard their music quite a bit, and I do like their sound. The "goth" label that they have is actually not very just, if you ask me. It's more like a mellow sludge/doom/VERY Sabbath-inspired with a goth overtone. They are one of those bands whose appeal is ruined not by their music but by their fans, as I seem to think they're on the "trendy" end of the goth spectum. But really, they're just a bunch of unnapreciative New York assholes (seriously, the band members are COMPLETE assssssholes) who keep releasing albums. And they've got quite a cool sound if you ask me.
Thought I'd also add that they do some cool covers. Other than Sabbath, they have covered The Beatles, Santana, and a few others.

| Yes, they are one of my favorite bands of all time. No, it's not because of Peter Steele - contrary to most people's belief regarding 'that'. They dub themselves 'the drab four' for obvious reasons. They can be dull and lifeless on stage (saw them four times, and each time their mood was different), but their music speaks for itself. My favorite album of theirs by far is 'World Coming Down'. It is the epitome of doom to me. It's very sad, full of remorse, bitterness, loss, pain...all of the elements are there. The music is low, slow, and deep. A perfect 'mood' for doom. 'Origin of the Feces' is a riot - a fake live album. Gotta love the concept. ROFL It has a lot of betrayal and anger in it. That hits a chord with me as well. I'd say that's my second favorite. And their cover of "Paranoid" is one of the best covers of anything I've ever heard. Dare I say better than Black Sabbath's version? *ducks* The subject matter is best sung in Type O's style. EVERYONE disputes the mere thought of them being classified as 'doom'. I can understand that because their earlier albums are so 'goth' it isn't even funny - wine, roses, and all that jazz. Haha My first album of theirs was 'World Coming Down'. And it helped me through some really difficult times when spouse bit the dust. Some good sonic therapy for me. A lot of their songs are extremely tongue in cheek and rather cheesy, but it's good to see they don't take their goth image so seriously. HahaThey are what they are. Take them or leave them. I prefer to take them. And Carnivore? A complete male ego trip. I love it. Although I only have the one album. I listened to samples of the second one on Amazon.com to see if I wanted to buy it or not...the sound of someone throwing up is not my idea of 'music', so I passed on that one. What's that song called..."Jack Daniels and Pizza" or something? Ok...I'm DONE babbling. Anything else you wanna know? By the way...this bit of rubbish is just my opinion. I know nothing about music. - Quote :
- But really, they're just a bunch of
unnapreciative New York assholes Yep! True on that one!!

| I got into TYPE O NEGATIVE with their album Slow, Deep and Hard. So, that one is my favorite. Then Bloody Kisses. I like those because Peter would still inject a little CARNIVORE into them. However, the first version of Bloody Kisses had two cool songs.. " Kill All The White People" and " We Hate Everyone" that were deleted on the rerelease of that album which kinda sucked. I always thought Peter was kinda doing that to maybe not catch so much flack.. I tried to listen to October Rust, but I couldn't get into it.. Out of Peter's work, I like his band CARNIVORE best. Specifically the album Retaliation! Yeah Strig, Jack Daniels and Pizza! The lyrics on that album are absolutely designed to provoke people and make them mad. This is the perfect album to play to your "progressive" friends who are self righteous and politcally "correct". Carnivore have actually been playing a few reunion shows, but none around me.. | I just came across this interview with Peter.. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1553370/20070227/type_o_negative.jhtmlHere is a quote from the interview.. His mother's death, Steele said, was a major eye-opener for him, and it made him "realize my own mortality. That's why this forthcoming album has more of a punky, hardcore edge, because I'm pissed off at life 'cause I know I'm going to f---ing die. I just want to beat up the reaper." Still, the singer said, Dead Again — which is set for a March 13 release — is perhaps Type O's "least negative" work to date."I just want to beat up the reaper!" CLASSIC! I may go see Type O on this upcoming tour. Brand New Sin is opening up the show I would goto.. of course the mighty CELTIC FROST (!!) joins the tour later.. of course.. | |

OK, I already had a live version of "Wolf Moon" on the comp that had Sabbath's "Cornucopia" as the intro, and I just added "Black No. 1" and "Haunted" on your recommendation, wakey. No more for now, as I will have to digest what I currently have and see if it decorates my cookies or not. I have a sneaking suspicion I will want more, but we'll see...

I think you really need to hear the studio version of Wolf Moon as it is an absolute classic. Something to bear in mind with Type O is that they have a good sense of humour coupled with a very rock and roll attitude. I haven't seen the naked Steele photos, but it wouldn't spoil my enjoyment of such a classic band.

| Love Type O.. 'October Rust' and 'World Coming Down' are my favorites. Steele's more kind of 'intimate' lyrics are about the only ones in music I can tolerate, for some reason. Of course, it's vastly destructive without a context of a marriage covenant.... If I were married however, I would apply them to that relationship. I can listen to them and dig it, and that says something. | |

Yeah-was great mate, but well weird. PL played a great set, then the changeover was well over an hour during which Sabbath was belted out over the PA. Then came The Birdie Song, followed by the intro tape. Type-O played for a pretty short time (I think this was due to curfew problems) They went off and there was lots of messing around by band members, including mooning and videoing of booing audience members. The plastic cups were mounting up on the stage due to the fury of the crowd and the band came back on and played Black no I. Pete challenged the cup throwers to hit him (jokingly) which they did, so he had to stop playing and restart the song. After this song he ripped his bass strings off and that was it. Apparently he had had an asthma attack earlier, causing their late arrival. He was playing his bass one handed a lot, and sometimes not at all but it still sounded great. He has an incredible bass sound. I loved it but many there were furious! Lots more happened but it was all crazy. If you view their MySpace you will see some unintelligent people's remarks including a lad that thinks that Pete was miming etc.

Absolutely. It was a bizarre night, but they are a great band anyway and so are Paradise Lost. If both bands had only done half an hour, it would have been worth the admission price.
