Badlands

Probably not most of you all's cup of tea but they were a fantastic pop metal band. Ray had awesome pipes and I love the blues influence. Plus, the cover of, Fire and Rain, is awesome. Anyone like?

Three of the best albums of the time, if you ask me. Jake is such an awesome guitarist.

All 3 albums are fan-bloody-tastic!!!

I know House of Lords did Cant Find My Way Home, but when did Badlands do it? I've never heard it.

BADLANDS did "Fire And Rain" by James Taylor...but I also don't recall "Can't Find My Way Home"...

That third album Shawn, Dusk, I don't have as I didn't realize they put it out and now it costs too much. Did you get it when it came out?

Yeah man I loved the Badlands.. top notch stuff.. Greg Chiasson had such a unique sound. Very cool stuff

It was always an import...I got it in a trade years ago, and no longer have it actually...but it was a great record...much more raw than the first two...rumor has it that it's the live-in-the-studio demos for thier 3rd album that Jake & Greg touched up after Ray's death.

Great albums! At least the 2 I have. . . Ray Gillen was the best vocalist ever!!!!

btw - anyone else have the Greg Chaisson solo cd? It's not bad. . . southern rock'ish.

I only have the first one and I love it! Jake is a brilliant guitarist!

I have Chaiasson's cd and love it.. enjoyed him on Die Happy Vol 2 as well

Good band. Like the blues vibe they have. Never really considered them "pop metal" though.

Gillen has a fantastic voice.

They were the farthest thing from a "hair band" yet, sadly, that is how they will most be remembered...

I agree they werent in the same league at Warrant, Trixter or Poison........they were in a higher league in my opinion.

True Zombie and one thing about marketing, it pigeonholes too many bands.

Agreed.

Atlantic Records did their darnedest to throw them in with the hair metal lot. Maybe that's why they weren't bigger in the mainstream.

Yeah Atlantic was the "hair band whore" of record labels in the late 80's and early 90's. 98% of those bands were wretched. Badlands were such a stand out in the hard rock genre.

From the little I've heard from them, they sounded like a great band and I would not lump them in with the hair bands at all.

Nope they are just too grounded in bluesy hard rock and I just dont identify them with "party hardy bands" like Poison and Trixter.

There songs have substance and soul to them.

Great band that got lost in the shuffle between hair metal & grunge. They were a ROCK band, that's it, no other descriptions required. Voodoo Highway is one of my favorite albums from that era.

I saw them on tour for both of the albums and they were far better live, the studio records never quite captured the sound, especially the debut. Tracks like Rumblin' Train are good on the record...but were awe-inspiring live.

If they had been marketed better they could have been the next Bad Company.
