PostSubject: WhyWhyWhyWhyWhyWhyWhyWhyWhy   Sun Apr 27, 2008 12:39 pm

I am just so sick and tired of listening to bands that show such promise and then there is shit vocals. It happened again this morning for the umpteenth time. I just don't get it. SOme bands are so deadly and then you hear the vocals and it is like " Bugger! This blows".

I don't know exactly how this trend came to be. I know it was from people trying and failing to mimic about 3 or four different vocalists who actually did it well. But rather than being boo'd back to the drawing board the failures were accepted by fans and then their crappy attempt at vocals were mimic'd by even crappier vocals and a spiralling shitstorm of good music with retarded vocals has been unleashed on all of us!

I don't want to have to be talked into liking a band or getting past the vocals to greatness. No, I can't contribute to this cycle of lunacy any longer.

I can only hope there are guys out there who will really really work at it to be on par with the rest of the band. I hope bands won't settle on friends but only on people with sufficient talent AND heart to be on the mic. I hope a bunch of people discover bands with GREAT vocalists and make the decision to pattern themselves after these guys instead of the subpar retardation forced on us for years.

And I am not just referring to one style of vocals I mean in every genre. Maybe there will be more Eric Wagners, Rob Rocks, Rob Halfords, John Bushs, Ozzy Osbournes, Bruce Dickinsons, Ian Gillians, Roger Martinezs, Devin Schaeffers, Karl Buechners, and many many more, hell even Henry Rollins to rise up and deliver us from this mediocrity....

I can understand why a new band can have a poor vocalist, as all vocalists need to start somewhere, but when its a very "popular" band... its a mystery.

Ah yes...shitty vocals paired with great music...its origins and its purpose are mysteries that have perplexed even the wisest and most pure hearted of listeners down through the ages...

This is exactly my frustration with Tourniquet. Such brilliant musicians, but so sad they have never been able to employ a listenable vocalist.

I can understand the frustration because for me vocalists either make or break a band for me. If i like the vox then I might like the band. Tourniquet is a good example after Guy Ritter left or was kicked out or whatever the band went from awesome to maximum suckage. With the exception of the song "Bearing Gruesome Cargo"

However theres alot of good bands out there but I want to say most have sucky ass vocalists. So yeah i can understand the frustration all too well

Vocals can make or break for me too. I simply love Sacrament "Haunts of Violence" but the vocals leave me cold. I have to really just tone out the vocals.

I guess I'm one of the few who love the vocals on Haunts.

I like the vocals on Haunts. It's the production that annoys me.

The vocals are too "shouted" for my tastes. Almost like he should be singing for some punk band. Musically I think it is brilliant.

Sigh.. AGAIN!!!!
I was finally getting around to checking out Fearscape. My heart lifted! Amazing metal. I was listening to the Scent of Divine Blood cuts posted at Myspace. Fantastic stuff but the vocals.. oh man.. not my bag at all. I wanted to cry. Such killer music soiled by those dorky shrieky things. Bummer

Shitty vocals are all in the ear/taste of the listener. There are singers I like who some people think suck.

As far as black metal vocals go, Matt from Fearscape is one of the best. He's improved a lot since he first started doing vocals, over 9 years ago.

So this one is a case of just not being into the style, rather than an actual lack of talent.

I dig the Fearscape vocals. I just checked them out a week ago. I dig it.
