I *REALLY* love the POS stuff I've been able to find. . . Which would be The Black is Never Far & Nailed.

How about Pentagram? What's the best stuff? :)

I picked up First Daze Here Too & Turn To Stone - listening now. . .

:)

:bounce:

Turn to Stone is a good comp of some of the best stuff from the three albums Victor played on, Pentagram (aka Relentless), Day of Reckoning and Be Forewarned.

First Daze Here Too is the second volume of material from the early seventies version of PENTAGRAM, which was never officially released until this collection came out a few years ago. It's very different from the stuff that Victor played on, but their early seventies heaviness is awesome in its own right.

The albums with Victor are my favorites, followed by the two volumes of the early material. The releases after Victor left are good too, but they are not nearly as far under my skin as the other stuff.

Oh yikes. Smile I mean that in a good way.

Just switched over from First Daze to Turn to Stone. . . way better!!!!! Much more what I expected! Ok, I must just like Victor! Smile

The First Daze was good - in a 70's rock kinda way - but this (Turn to Stone) is Really Good! Smile

Ahhhhhh.

Thanks!!!!

N/P Smile

The early stuff will grow on you if you give it a chance, but I agree that the Victor era stuff is more immediately accessible. What do you think of "Petrified"? (the cd opener) It's one of my fave songs from them and I will be covering it on the next TD album. GEEN!

THe different versions of the band totally confused me at first, but I think I got it now. Winky

Bouncy Can't wait!

@ _Wes: it's awesome that you're discovering Pentagram. The Turn to
Stone comp is a comp of the band's first three albums with Victor
Griffin. The three albums have recently been reissued (in the past two
years or so). Personally, I think Relentless, Day of Reckoning, and Be
Forwarned are three absolute classic doom essentials. The Turn to Stone
comp is very good, but if you get the albums, you'll have about twice
as many songs from that era ... highly reccommended if you like the
sound. At the moment, Relentless is my fav, but that tends to change Winky
and the others are excellent as well.

Sweet. Yes - it's all good so far.

So good in fact, I went back & cranked The Black is Never Far for the commute home.

I've been grooving quite a LOT lately on the Be Forewarned album.
Particularly the track "Too Late"! Doom-Metal

Doomy, Batty Yeah, cool imagery in that one,and The World Will.Victor wrote a couple of the numerous vampire related songs.Wonder if he ever thinks about ,back then he was writing about drinking blood, crosses and the undead and now he writes about drinking blood, crosses and the undead, a trip huh? I wonder who actually started the whole vampire mythology,I know the Dracula legend was based in part on a true story but little else, does anybody have any knowledge on this subject.Seems like an interesting one considering the time of year.

dood! Actually, when I was younger, I read a non-fiction book, I think
entitled "Real Vampires", can't remember the author (or if that's the
right name), but it was a historical retrospective on vampire legends
throughout history. It actually traced back the roots of all the
aspects of vampirism, like turning into bats, wherewolves, different
places that vampires have historically been said to drink blood, how it
came about that they are said to hide from light, etc. I read that book
probably a decade ago now, I wish I still had it, now that you bring up
that subject. I'll take a look for it next time I hit the bookstore!

Doomy, Batty Sounds interesting,I was just wondering about the origins because of all the Christian parallels and the seemingly Catholic overtones with the fear of the cross and things.Hands down though for me "Sign Of The Wolf"is one of Pentagram's best songs ever and definitely the best one about werewolves.Maybe Trog can shed some more light(LOL) about it.

Wes,

I wouldn't judge the earlier PENTAGRAM band by the
First Daze Here Too cd as that is the second compilation
of that era. It has some good stuff on it, but First Daze Here
is KILLER. It's a way stronger representation of the earlier
PENTAGRAM band. It's definitely one of my top PENTAGRAM
albums. With Relentless coming in second..
