So i'm blasting My Silent Wake and Mist is playing. My 14 year old daughter wants to know if the singer is crying and sounding so forlorn. She says it makes her sad and she doesn't like it but the 12 and 10 year old, both girls, were on board. You try and try but one will still want to listen to Panic At the Disco. Grumpy

My son loves Candlemass & likes the other bands I've played for him...but still gravitates toward Slipknot & Seether...

At least she could feel the forlornness in the music.

My four year-old asks for BLACK SABBATH, SAINT VITUS, and PLACE OF SKULLS by name! Once we were playing together and I had SLEEP on in the background and he was grooving to it. A few days later he said, "Hey daddy, can we listen to that band called 'Nighttime'?" I thought the word association was hilarious, and of course was happy to play SLEEP for him again.

Cool story SGF....

Like I said, my son is a big CANDLEMASS fan...and of course BLACK SABBATH (Dio & Ozzy)...I've played him others and he likes them (KRUX, SOLITUDE AETURNUS, TROUBLE), but only has so much room in his brain, I suppose. Being in high school in 2008 he takes in his fair share of SLIPKNOT, STATIC-X, DISTURBED & H.I.M. ...

oh in small doses I can manage especially if I am kicking my 11 year old's ass in Guitar Hero... then I get the song choice bwahahahaha

My 11 year old likes quite a few bands that I can't stomach but he also loves most of my music including Ozzy, Sabbath, etc

Looking back at my high school days, it seems that my friends who had the best taste in music also had parents who had good taste in music. It was the early 90's, but I had friends who were into bands like Sabbath and Rush because their parents listened to that from the time they were little. Incidentally, those were the same friends that I was always able to get hooked on King's X (no one else liked them even though they were always one step ahead of the early 90's grunge crowd). Hopefully we'll all be able to instill some of that same musical heritage in our offspring!
