| Hey, no one here's gonna kill you for posting Soundgarden, I think most of us are probably fans! I, for one, like the band. I think Randy has mentioned them favorably as well. Also, I have heard Tony Iommi mention Soundgarden on more than one occasion saying he liked their music and that he felt the band was helping keep the Sabbath sound alive. I think he's correct, and much of the grunge movement was like that as well IMO. _________________ ---- Theyyyyy sayyyy myyy songggsss are much too slowww....

| People whine about Soundgarden because they call them grunge and say grunge wiped out metal Bad metal killed metal and early Soundgarden was waaaaaay metal IMO just being more creative and taking a cue from Sabbath when others were trying to be the next Skid Row and Metallica was trying to be Oasis |

| I'm an SG fan, always have been - particularly their Ultramega OK and Louder Than Love albums. And I always have held that grunge (some of it) is a distant cousin of doom. |

Black Hole Sun is a great song.. but the video is kind of disturbing... I will tell you why as most fundy's miss it. It is basically wishing the rapture would come and take away all the obnoxious plastic "christians"... of course what it really is a reaction to is the horrible abuses and caricatures that happen under the banner of Amercian Fundamentalism... of course that is not synonymous with Jesus and christianity but don't try and tell not-so-fun-dys that.
Personally as a believer I think bands like Soundgarden (with Black Hole Sun and Jesus Christ Pose) are spot on in rejecting the abuses that pass as christianity here. The sad thing is that these bands don't know authentic christianity and so all the garbage gets lumped in and the whole thing dismissed. I remember Kim Thayil talking about how surprised he was at the reaction to the video for Jesus Christ Pose because he thought Christians would agree with taking down hypocrites and people who use Jesus to shove off their own selfish agendas.... he was right IMO

| I didn't like most grunge, missed the great soloing and heavy riffage. Some of what got lumped into being grunge wasn't to me say an Alice in Chains. Just good 70's inspired heavy metal. I didn't like that it became passe to know the instrument well. Just my take. |

Agreed! You just made me pick up my Soundgarden mp3's again... and lo, 'twas good! Really love the vocals, esp. on the earlier SG albums. |

| I think of grunge as Nirvana and Mudhoney. So many groups that got called grunge, to me were just sludgey 70's hard rock. I liked Pearl Jam's first album but they moved away from that sound and lost me. |
