On the spur of the moment, my brother and I decided to get tickets for Heaven & Hell with Megadeth in Detroit this Saturday!

This is excellent for me, because I love 'Deth and have never seen them live (and the new lineup is excellent!)... plus I've never seen any incarnation of Sabbath. I'd love to see the original lineup, but I dig the Dio lineup, too.

Who else is gonna catch this tour?

Already saw it a couple weeks ago, it ruled, and you will love it!

Machine Head - Blah. won't bother to discuss it.

Megadeth -- Wow! What a potent lineup! Dave was really on top of his game. I had great seats, and it was incredible to watch him play! The set list included most of what are considered the classics. I thought it was cool they included "Wake Up Dead." They also played the new "Washington Is Next" which abso-freakin-lutely ruled... the new album is gonna rock! Dave also said that they'd be back soon, so hopefully they'll do a headlining tour before too long... Also, funny that they didn't play anything from Youthanasia, especially as A Tout Le Monde is one of Dave's favorite songs. The set was so great, though, that I didn't even notice the absence until my brother pointed it out.
The only thing that mystifies me a bit is the inclusion of James LoMenzo in the band. Great player to be sure, but the dude started out in White Lion before he was in BLS...

Sabbath -- Man, did Dio put me in my place. Trog, you're gonna kill me, but... I think that Dio era Sabbath is every bit as good as Ozzy era. A different band, sure, but still, every bit as good. In fact, I just got online and ordered a bunch of Dio era stuff that's been missing from my collection. But back to the show... the stage setup was so freakin' cool with the whole cathedral thing... and Dio creeping down the stone steps (the front of the drum riser) during the opening track, "After All (The Dead)" which is such a great song anyway... and then, here's what really struck me during the show. I've always known Geezer played some really cool stuff on the bass. I mean, half the time, when Tony's doing a solo, Geezer's basically doing a bass solo underneath it. But still, when a band with only one guitar player plays live, it usually sounds a little empty during the solo's. But Geezer just plays in such a way that it really, really carries the song so well.

Is Heaven & Hell satanical? Sounds like they cain't make up they minds bout whar they's goin...

I saw this tour last week and it was AWESOME! I won tickets
to it from a radio station, which made it even more of a sweet deal!

MACHINEHEAD sounded horrible. I know they have a few good
songs, but their sound was so bad, you couldn't make out any of the riffs.
Too bad VIO-LENCE wasn't playing instead..

MEGADETH was a HUGE surprise because they had a killer
setlist! "Wake Up Dead", "Peace Sells", "Holy Wars", "Kick The Chair"
I wish they would have played "In My Darkest Hour" as
I guess they have played that on this tour as well, but I was happy
with the set. The new songs sounded killer as well..

HEAVEN & HELL were FANTASTIC! This is the first
time for me seeing any incarnation of Sabbath, which is quite odd.
I AM glad this was the first time seeing them though. I guess I
am so burned out on the Ozzy Sabbath hits and it was cool to
only hear Dio era Sabbath. I know Iommi was getting pretty frustrated
with Ozzy only doing the same set for 10 years, which kinda prompted
this whole tour. I do wish Bill Ward would have tagged along so I
could see him play drums. I would have liked to heard Country Girl
instead of one of the new songs or one of the songs from
Dehumanizer, but, the set was pretty strong. Geezer was
killin' the bass and Iommi was shredding his guitar. I liked Appice's
"towers of toms" that he would pull on to play and Dio was cursing
everyone with his devil horns..

I am thankful I got to see the concert. I would have liked to gotten
a concert shirt, but $30 is alot for a tshirt..
