The top small avatar goes with your member level based on your post count. I tried to make it as small as I could (without it being too small to see) so it wouldn't take up too much space. At a certain point, you get to choose whether it's even there or not.
I tried to build a few surprises into the board, like the old d-m.com used to have. I miss that old board.
