Picked up "Destruction of the Void". This is a good Sabbath-inspired doom album with Ozzy-esque vocals. Anyone familiar with this band?

Yep! Great band! I have all of their stuff. Christian Lindersson, who sang on the first album Storm Warning, went on to sing with SAINT VITUS on their C.O.D. album after Wino left. COUNT RAVEN continued as a three piece for their next three albums. I've heard that they have been active recently, but I've yet to hear about any new material...

Great doom that even has some Christian themes in places.

They're ok. I have Destruction Of The Void. It was a fair release. The lyrics were sort of Jesusy, if I recall. I'll have to dig that out again...

Appropriately enough, I lost interest about the same time I lost interest in Ozzy (I don't care for anything after No More Tears).

I remember when I first met John Perez, after greeting me,his next words were "Have you heard Count Raven?".Being a Sab freak,I instantly dug them and their lyrics were at times very thought provoking"The world seems chaos and confusion, someone gains on this illusion" from "Traitor"

I have not heard Count Raven, but I recently picked up Terra Firma's s/t debut, which was Christian Lindersson's other band. Good stoner/doom. I highly recommend it. They have a 2nd disc out (Harm's Way), but I have yet to hear it.

In my review for High on Infinity I wrote "Sounding so similiar to Ozzy that his relatives could be fooled, vocalist Fodde delivers."

The really funny thing to me is that when I first heard Linderson,I thought, man that guy sounds a lot like Ozzy, then along comes Dan and he out-Ozzies everybody.

If Ozzy flat refused to ever record another Sabbath album and he very nearly has,if they recruited Dan,I would be on board for it.I wonder if any members of Sabbath have ever heard Count Raven.

Hey,you know who REALLY needs to work together,Dan,Al Morris of Iron Man, Cisneros of Sleep, and Joe Hasselvander. That is probably the closest anyone could come to re-creating Sabbath IMO.

Yeah,IMO,if you listen to each one of them play in their respective bands, they tend to mirror their musical elders,Dan,Al, and Joe (sounds like a doom bowling team )are a given, but Cisneros really impressed me with Sleep's cover of Snowblind, and on some of their other songs,he really has a Geezer vibe going, more so it seems than other bass players in Sab influenced bands.

I am one of the few people that think that Cisneros could be doing something better that was he is doing know. Don't get me wrong, i like it but i feel his talent is in playing more straight out Doom/Stoner Metal.

From what I hear, yeah,he really had that Geezer sort of sound and they were just so drop bottom heavy on Snowblind, didn't really get into the vocals of the albums, except when he toned it down and sang in a more droning Ozzy-ish way,but the music was at times authentic sounding, like Pentagram, just that timewarp feeling,so raw,so heavy, sounding like it could have been recorded in 71 right after Sabbath's self titled, AWESOME sound !
