One of the darkest and most experimental bands of the classic progressive rock period... 8)
The entire 70's output is simply classic beyond classic, to the point where the later years with Belew barely even exist to me.
Gonna rank them this way:
Lizard
In the Court of the Crimson King
Starless and Bible Black
Islands
Larks Tongues in Aspic
In the Wake of Poseidon
Red
I know a lot of people just got too weirded out by 'Lizard', but I feel like it stretches out in ways that should have happened on 'Wake', but didn't...the mood is unmatched.. the great Peter Sinfield is still writing stellar lyrics..and the title track with Jon Anderson is pristine.
'Red' on the other hand is my least favorite.. it just feels really rushed, a lot of what they tried with the scales and melodies really didn't work on here, there was too much collision of mood, where it just didn't mesh. BUT, 'Starless' is one of their crowning achievements.
And all the live stuff from that decade is worth checking out as well.
Feedback please....
